(#1965) POWER Hypervisor
This feature allows the customer to create partitions that are in
units of less than 1 CPU (Micro-Partitioning).
The processor(s) on the system can be partitioned into as many as 10
LPARs per processor. An encrypted key is supplied to the customer and
installed on the system, authorizing the partitioning at the
sub-processor level.
(#1965) POWER Hypervisor and Virtual I/O Server (VIOS)
The POWER Hypervisor and Virtual I/O Server technologies allow
customers to create partitions in units of less than one CPU (sub-CPU
LPARs) and for the same system I/O to be virtually added to these
partitions. This optional feature, available for a per processor fee,
combines two components:
- Firmware feature to turn on the POWER Hypervisor technologies,
including Logical Partitioning (LPAR), Dynamic LPAR and
Micro-Partitioning
- Software feature to activate the I/O virtualization
At initial order entry, selecting feature number 1965 will result in
the POWER Hypervisor technology being enabled during manufacture. The
selection of feature number 1965 will also cause the VIOS software media
and publications to be shipped to the customer. However, the VIOS
software will not be pre-installed in manufacturing.
When ordering feature number 1965 as an MES, an activation key will be
posted on an IBM Web site and the customer must retrieve and install it
on the system. The IBM Web site is:
