Product Positioning

The pSeries 655 is designed to offer leadership performance for a
dense cluster optimized server package, targeted for High Performance
Computing (HPC) and Business Intelligence (BI) customers within the UNIX
server environment. Designed for the medium to large customer whose
workloads are best managed with a clustered-server solution, the p655
provides flexibility and scalability. Additional upside opportunity
includes current SP customers outside HPC/BI looking to upgrade, expand,
or integrate more compute power for workload consolidation or enterprise
applications.

Based on IBM's advanced POWER4 microprocessor technology with up to
1.3 GHz, 64-bit processor speed, copper and SOI technology, the p655
offers high performance in a dense package with favorable
price/performance characteristics, allowing up to 128 processors in a
single frame.

pSeries 655 systems configured with 4-way, high-memory-bandwidth
processor MCMs (#5513 or #5518)) may be especially attractive to
customers in the high-performance computing environment. This
configuration provide twice the amount of Level 2 and Level 3 cache, and
additional memory bandwidth per processor when compared to systems
configured with 8-way processor MCMs.

This additional cache and memory bandwidth available for each
processor in this configuration may provide significantly higher
performance per processor for certain engineering and technical
environment applications.
