(#0500) Library and Drive Code Update
of an installed
3584 library and the tape drives. Newer microcode firmware levels may be
required when adding new functions or attaching tape drives in the
library to new environments. For more details on minimum required
levels refer to the IBM LTO or 3592 Web sites referenced in the
the Hardware Requirements section.

accessor can support both LTO and 3592 cartridges within the same
3584 library. In addition, it provides an additional 16
input/output (I/O) slot station for 3592 data cartridges.
It is for a 3584 Model L32 with LTO and 3592 mixed media
requirements in the library. The additional I/O slots provide the
capability to insert or remove 3592 data cartridges in addition to the
insert or remove of LTO data cartridges with the standard I/O station
in the Model L32.

(#1681) Data Path Failover
data path failover and load balancing for native
Fibre Channel Ultrium 2 Tape Drives
in the UltraScalable Tape Library 3584 using the IBM Linux Device Driver.
This data path failover is designed to provide error recovery to
enable a retry of the current operation using an alternate,
preconfigured path in a SAN environment without aborting the current
job in progress.
When accessing a tape drive device that has been configured with
alternate pathing across multiple host ports, the IBM Linux Device Driver
is designed to automatically optimize resources to improve overall
performance.
Further, Data Path Failover provides autonomic self-healing
capabilities similar to Control Path Failover, with transparent failover
to an alternate data path in the event of a failure in the primary
host-side path. With this feature, support is provided for Fibre Channel
attachments when the IBM Linux device driver is used.
does not require this feature.
(#1690) Advanced Library Management System
management of cartridges, storage slots, tape drives, and logical
libraries. Tape drives can be easily assigned to any logical library
using a Web user interface.
Logical libraries can be added, deleted, or changed non-disruptively.
The assignment of inserted cartridges to a logical library can be set
manually, by the software application, or by user defined policies.
Storage capacity can be changed without any impact to host applications.
