  • Feature #3486 (2Gb Fibre Channel Drive Attach) must be specified on
the 3494 Model D24 or D14 Frame that contains the Model J70 Controller
with the 2Gb Fibre Channel Switch (#3487 or #4887).

  • One feature #3490 (Redundant 2Gb Attach) must be specified on the
3494 Model D24 or D14 Frame to install a second 2Gb Fibre Channel Switch
(#3487 or #4887) to provide redundancy.

  • Feature #3491 or #9491 (External Fabric Support Field or Plant) is
required on the 3494 Model D24 Frame in place of feature #3486
when attaching 3592 Tape Drives with a customer-supplied
external fabric or direct connection between the controller and
    up to two drives.

    54a388,398

  • Feature #4085 (Adjacent Frame 2Gb 3592) must be specified on the
associated 3494 Model L22 or D22 Frame that contains the other 3592
Tape Drives that will be attached to the Model J70 Controller
with the 2Gb Fibre Channel Switch (#3487 or #4887).
Up to 4 3592 Tape Drives can be installed in an adjacent
    Model L22 or 8 in a Model D22 Frame, for a total of up to 16 3592
Tape Drives attached to a 3592 Model J70 Controller depending on the
number of #3487 or #4887 installed on the 3592 Model J70.

  • Feature #3491 or #9491 (External Fabric Support Field or Plant) are

    Increased open systems tape drives

Tape drives in each 3494 Model Dxx Frame can now
connect to an Ethernet Attached Serial Hub (EASH) feature instead
of by a serial cable back to the LM in the 3494 Base Frame Model Lxx.
    Each pair of EASH devices
can support up to the maximum number of drives in the
3494 Tape Library Dxx Frame they reside in, and communicate
via an Ethernet interface back to the LM in the
    3494 Base Frame Model Lxx.
A total of 96 open systems tape drives can communicate via
    the EASH interface.
Combined with the 32 open systems tape drives that can
communicate via the serial interfaces of the LM in the
3494 Model Lxx Frame, a total of 128 open systems tape drives
may now be attached to a single 3494 Tape Library.

To attach the Tape Drives to the EASH, the following features must
    be installed:

    • On each 3494 Model Dxx or Lxx Frame with tape drives:

      • 5184 (Ethernet Attached Serial Hub) - one per frame on a
        3494 Model D12, D22, L12, or L22, which provides two
EASH devices in each frame for redundancy.

    • On each 3494 Model Lxx and HA1 Frame with an EASH anywhere in
      the library:

      • 9184 (EASH Enablement) - this must be on the Model L10, L12, L14,
or L22, and on the Model HA1 if
feature #5184 is installed in a Model Dxx or Lxx Frame, to enable an
        EASH connection on the LM.

      • 5232 (Attachment Concentrator) - provides the internal attachment
        to the LM.

      • 5246 (Dual Path Concentrator) - is also required
for EASH attachment to provide a dual path to the drive
        helping eliminate a
Single Point of Failure (SPOF) and Single Point of Repair (SPOR).

      • An LM that was shipped after May 15, 2000, or one of the following
        features on the Model Lxx:

        • 5047 or 9047 (LAN PCI Library Manager)
        • 5046 or 9046 (PCI Library Manager)
        • 9020 (Model B20, B10, or B18 VTS Attachment)

A pair of Ethernet cables is provided from the LM
to each frame with EASH devices.

Dual power on the Models D22 and D24

A second power distribution unit is now available
internal to the 3494 Model D22 and D24 frames.
    This enables usage of a
second power plug on devices supported in these frames.
    Supported devices include:

    • 3592 Model J1A Tape Drives

    • 3592 Model J70 Controller

    • 2Gb Fibre Channel Switch available as a feature
on the 3494 Model D22 or 3592 Model J70 Controller

    • IBM TotalStorage SAN Switch 2109 Models F16 and S16

The second power distribution unit is provided with the installation
of the following feature in a 3494 Model D22 or D24 Frame:

    • 1901 (Dual AC Power)

Note: This feature cannot be installed if a
3590 Model A60 Controller is installed in the 3494 Model D24.

be attached and associated with a Model B10 or Model B20 VTS
as a part of a hierarchical storage management system in the 3494. This
feature is required to assure that the proper cables are provided
    for attachment to the VTS.

    • Maximum: One.
    • Corequisites: Features #3486 (2Gb Fibre
Drive Attachment) and #3487 (2Gb Fibre Channel Switch).
    • Plant or Field Installation.

    90c722,746
  • Factory installation only.

    (#9491) External Fabric Support/Plant

This feature on the Model L22 or D22 Frame indicates that 3592 Model
J1A Tape Drives will be connected to 3592 Model J70 Controller through
an external customer-supplied fibre channel switch.

The customer is responsible for providing the cables from the 3592
Model J70 installed in a Model D24 Frame to a
customer-supplied fibre channel switch. (Cables from the switch or
controller to the 3592 Model J1A Tape Drives can be ordered with the 3592
Tape Drives or supplied by the customer.)

This feature on the frame indicates that the customer is providing
the cables from the 3592 Model J70 to a customer supplied fibre
channel switch and cables from the switch or controller
to the 3592 Model J1A tape drives.

    • Feature type: No Charge
    • Required feature: No

This feature provides a power switch to allow connection of two line
cords to two independent branch power circuits. Two line cords, instead
of a single line cord, of the default or specified line cords
(either 110 V ac or 220 V ac) are provided when feature #1901 is ordered.
The power switch monitors the ac line voltage on the primary power
line and automatically switches to the alternate ac line feed
if the incoming voltage is lost in a 3494 Tape Library that has
the 3494 Model HA1 High Availability Frames installed.

      • Maximum number of features: One.
      • Required feature: No.

      (#3486) 2Gb Fibre Drive Attachment

This feature is required on the 3494 Model D22 Frame that contains
a 2Gb Fibre Channel Switch feature (#3487) for attachment of
3592 Tape Drives to a VTS Model B10 or B20.
It provides the required mounting hardware and
instructions for installing two 2Gb Fibre Channel Switches in the
3494 Model D22. Up to 12 3592 Tape Drives in the Model D22 Frame
can be attached to the VTS.

in a 3494 Model D22 Frame to its associated VTS Model B10 or B20.
Two 2Gb Fibre Channel Switches are required to attach the 3592 Tape
Drives in the Model D22 to a VTS.
The 2Gb Fibre Channel Switch has dual
power connection for attachment to separate power supplies.

      • Required feature: No.
      • Maximum number of features: Two.
When 3592 Tape Drives are to be attached to a VTS, two of these
        features must be ordered.
