Support for up to ten 3590 Tape Drives attached to a 3590 Model A60 or
3592 Model J70 is allowed as follows:

13a333,338
  • Feature #3486 (2Gb Fibre Channel Drive Attach) must be specified on
the 3494 Model D24 or D14 Frame that contains the Model J70 Controller
with the 2Gb Fibre Channel Switch (#3487 or #4887).
  • One feature #3490 (Redundant 2Gb Attach) must be specified on the
3494 Model D24 or D14 Frame to install a second 2Gb Fibre Channel Switch
(#3487 or #4887) to provide redundancy.

    24a350,358
  • Feature #4084 (Adjacent Frame 2Gb 3590) must be specified on the
associated 3494 Model L12 or D12 Frame that contains the other 3590 Tape
Drives that will be attached to the Model J70 Controller with the 2Gb
Fibre Channel Switch (#3487 or #4887). Up to two 3590 Tape Drives can be
installed in an adjacent Model L12 Frame or six 3590 Tape Drives in a D12
Frame, for a total of up to 10 3590 Tape Drives attached to a 3592 Model
J70 Controller when using the 2Gb Fibre Channel Drive Attach (#3486)
depending on the number of #3487 or #4887 installed on the 3592 Model
    J70.

    Increased open systems tape drives

Tape drives in each 3494 Model Dxx Frame can now
connect to an Ethernet Attached Serial Hub (EASH) feature instead
of by a serial cable back to the LM in the 3494 Base Frame Model Lxx.
    Each pair of EASH devices
can support up to the maximum number of drives in the
3494 Tape Library Dxx Frame they reside in, and communicate
via an Ethernet interface back to the LM in the
    3494 Base Frame Model Lxx.
A total of 96 open systems tape drives can communicate via
    the EASH interface.
Combined with the 32 open systems tape drives that can
communicate via the serial interfaces of the LM in the
3494 Model Lxx Frame, a total of 128 open systems tape drives
may now be attached to a single 3494 Tape Library.

To attach the Tape Drives to the EASH, the following features must
    be installed:

    • On each 3494 Model Dxx or Lxx Frame with tape drives:

      • 5184 (Ethernet Attached Serial Hub) - one per frame on a
        3494 Model D12, D22, L12, or L22, which provides two
EASH devices in each frame for redundancy.

    • On each 3494 Model Lxx and HA1 Frame with an EASH anywhere in
      the library:

      • 9184 (EASH Enablement) - this must be on the Model L10, L12, L14,
or L22, and on the Model HA1 if
feature #5184 is installed in a Model Dxx or Lxx Frame, to enable an
        EASH connection on the LM.

      • 5232 (Attachment Concentrator) - provides the internal attachment
        to the LM.

      • 5246 (Dual Path Concentrator) - is also required
for EASH attachment to provide a dual path to the drive
        helping eliminate a
Single Point of Failure (SPOF) and Single Point of Repair (SPOR).

      • An LM that was shipped after May 15, 2000, or one of the following
        features on the Model Lxx:

        • 5047 or 9047 (LAN PCI Library Manager)
        • 5046 or 9046 (PCI Library Manager)
        • 9020 (Model B20, B10, or B18 VTS Attachment)

A pair of Ethernet cables is provided from the LM
to each frame with EASH devices.

    (#4084) Adjacent Frame 2Gb 3590

This feature provides the hardware and installation instructions
to support attachment of 3590 Tape Drives with Fibre Channel
    Attachment (features #3510 or #9510) in a 3494 Model L12 or D12
Frame to a 3592 Model J70 Controller with the 2Gb Fibre Channel
Switch in an adjacent Model D14 Frame. In a adjacent frame fibre
attachment, up to 10 3590 Tape Drives with Fibre Channel Attachment
can be attached to the Model J70, four in the Model D14 Frame and up to
two in a Model L12 or six in Model D12 Frames. This feature allows
for a Fibre Channel cable from each tape drive to the 2Gb Fibre
Channel Switch in the Model D14 Frame with the 3592 Model J70 Controller
to be included based on the number of drives installed in this frame.

    • Feature type: Chargeable
    • Required feature: No
    • Maximum number of features: Two.
    • Installation: Plant or Field
    • Prerequisites: One feature number 3487 or 4887 must be ordered
on the J70 controller in the adjacent frame for each of these
features ordered. Order one #4084 if the 3494 Model D14 has
#3486 only, two if the Model D14 has #3486 and #3490. This feature is
      mutually exclusive with Features #4062, #4064, #4074, or #9062.

    (#5184) Ethernet Attached Serial Hub

This feature provides two Ethernet Attached Serial Hubs (EASH)
for Ethernet connection of open system attached tape drives in this
frame to the library manager (LM) in the 3494 Model Lxx Frame.
Up to 96 tape drives in the 3494 can communicate through an EASH
    connection to the LM.
Each EASH can be attached to separate power supplies for
    improved availability.

    • Required feature: No.
    • Maximum number of features: One.
    • Corequisites: Feature #9184 (EASH Enablement) must be installed
      on the 3494 Model Lxx.
    • Plant or Field Installation.
