Summary: The SAN256N 16 Port Fibre Channel I/O Blade (#5316) can be
configured with either shortwave (#2214) or longwave (#2224) SFP

Summary: Fibre Channel ports on the SAN256N (2045-N16) director may
be configured with either shortwave (#2214) or longwave (#2224) SFP

    05,717c724,731
configured on a SAN256N blade. All ports on the SAN256N blades must have
a transceiver ordered. Transceivers are ordered in increments of 16,
either shortwave, longwave, or a mix of shortwave and longwave based on
the number of I/O blades installed in the IBM TotalStorage SAN256N
    director

The minimum required number of SFPs ordered with features #2214,
#2224, #2235, and #2280 is 32 to support the minimum requirement of two
    SAN256N 16 Port Fibre Channel I/O Blades (#5316) per N16 Director. The
maximum number of SFPs (of all types) is 256.

    • Co-req: Min = 2214 (4 pack) + 2224 (4 pack) + 2235 + 2280 = 32
    • Co-req: Max = 2214 (4 pack) + 2224 (4 pack) + 2235 + 2280 = 256

configured for the 2 Gbps interfaces on the SAN n-type blades (#5316 and
#5390). The 10 Gbps interface on the 10 Gbps ISL I/O Blade (#5390)
requires a single form-factor pluggable transceiver, called an XFP,
designed for this link rate (#2390).

All available ports in the SAN256N director blades must have a
transceiver ordered. The total number of SFPs of all types required is
dependent upon the type and number of SAN256N blades ordered. Refer to
the SAN256N n-type Blades section for details.

    SAN256N n-type Blades

    The 16-slot, 256-port capable IBM TotalStorage SAN256N (IBM 2045-N16)
is available in configurations starting with a combination of any two
16 port Fibre Channel I/O and 10 Gbps ISL blades, providing growth
    from 26 to 256 ports.

    Available SAN n-type blades include:

    • (#5316) 16 Port 2 Gbps Fibre Channel I/O Blade

    • (#5390) 10 Gbps ISL Blade with twelve 2 Gbps interfaces plus
one 10 Gbps interface (13 ports total)

    Blade quantities per N16 director:

    • Minimum = 5316 + 5390 = 2

    • Maximum = 5316 + 5390 = 16

All available ports must be populated with SFPs.

    (#5301) Switch Module

Summary: The base 2045-N16 is configured with three switch
modules providing full bandwidth and non-blocking switch capability
for all ports even in the event of a loss or removal of any
switch module. This feature provides additional throughput for
configurations consisting of 10 Gbps and 256 ports.
The 10 Gbps ISL Blades (#5390) consume more
internal bandwidth than 16-port 2 Gbps Blades, but the 2045-N16
can still provide full, non-blocking switch capability for all ports
even with the loss of one of the switch modules
with this feature installed. This feature is a prerequisite for the
first 10 Gb ISL blade (#5390) to be installed in a 2045-N16.

    • Minimum Number of Features per 2045-N16: None.
    • Maximum Number of Features per 2045-N16: One.
    • Prerequisites: None.
    • Corequisites: Required for first #5390 ordered.
    • Compatibility Conflicts: None, does not require SFPs.
    • Customer Setup: No.
    • Limitations: None.
    • Field Installable: Yes, both IPO and MES.
    • Cable Order: None.

    (#5316) 16 Port 2 Gbps Fibre Channel I/O Blade

Summary: This feature supplies an additional 16 port FC I/O blade.

    • Customer Setup: No.
    • Limitations: None.
    • Field Installable: Yes, both IPO and MES.
    • Cable Order: None.

    (#5390) 10 Gbps ISL Blade

Summary: This feature provides a 10 Gbps
Fibre Channel ISL (Inter-Switch Link) interface for consolidating
multiple physical 1 and 2 Gbps ISLs. Customers can easily reduce the
quantity of existing ISL cabling with this standards based, high speed
interface. The 10 Gbps interface accepts a single form-factor pluggable
transceiver, called an XFP, designed for this link rate (see feature
#2390). The 10 Gbps ISL blade also includes twelve standard 2 Gbps Fibre
Channel interfaces. These interfaces support all the same features as a
standard 16-port Fibre Channel I/O blade (#5316) and can use any mix of
the four different types of SFP's currently available (#2214, 2224, 2235,
2280). All ports are required to have SFPs installed. The 10 Gbps ISL
blade is hot-swappable into any available I/O blade slot and supports
non-disruptive code load and activation. The 2045-N16 can have up to
four 10 Gbps ISL blades installed within the same chassis. As a
prerequisite, the operation of a 10 Gbps ISL blade in a 2045-N16 requires
all four switch modules to be installed to maintain full system
bandwidth between all ports even in the event of a loss or removal of any
switch module. An additional switch module (#5301) must be ordered in
conjunction with the first 10 Gbps ISL blade.

    • Minimum Number of Features per 2045-N16: None.
    • Maximum Number of Features per 2045-N16: Four.
    • Prerequisites: Feature #5301.
    • Corequisites: Must order 12 2 Gbps SFPs: (4 x 2214)+(4 x 2224) +
      2235 + 2280, and one 10 Gbps XFP, 2390.
    • Compatibility: All available ports must be populated with SFPs

(#7645) Fiber Trunking Break-Out Box with Trunk Strain Relief

Summary: This feature provides four patch panel assemblies for
attachment to a single 2045-N16 chassis. Each patch panel provides
Multifiber Terminated Push-on (MTP) connector coupling between trunk
cables and patch cable bundles (refer to #7646-7651). Each panel
provides enough MTP couplers to cable to 64
Fibre Channel and associated monitoring ports plus several spare
couplers. Panels are labeled and hinged to provide easy access to both
sides of each coupler. Retention hardware to provide strain relief for
direct-attach trunk cables entering the UMD cabinet is included with
      this feature.

      • Minimum Number of Features per 2045-N16: None.
