Summary: The SAN256N 16 Port Fibre Channel I/O Blade (#5316) can be
configured with either shortwave (#2214) or longwave (#2224) SFP
Summary: Fibre Channel ports on the SAN256N (2045-N16) director may
be configured with either shortwave (#2214) or longwave (#2224) SFP
05,717c724,731
configured on a SAN256N blade. All ports on the SAN256N blades must have
a transceiver ordered. Transceivers are ordered in increments of 16,
either shortwave, longwave, or a mix of shortwave and longwave based on
the number of I/O blades installed in the IBM TotalStorage SAN256N
director
The minimum required number of SFPs ordered with features #2214,
#2224, #2235, and #2280 is 32 to support the minimum requirement of two
SAN256N 16 Port Fibre Channel I/O Blades (#5316) per N16 Director. The
maximum number of SFPs (of all types) is 256.
- Co-req: Min = 2214 (4 pack) + 2224 (4 pack) + 2235 + 2280 = 32
- Co-req: Max = 2214 (4 pack) + 2224 (4 pack) + 2235 + 2280 = 256
configured for the 2 Gbps interfaces on the SAN n-type blades (#5316 and
#5390). The 10 Gbps interface on the 10 Gbps ISL I/O Blade (#5390)
requires a single form-factor pluggable transceiver, called an XFP,
designed for this link rate (#2390).
All available ports in the SAN256N director blades must have a
transceiver ordered. The total number of SFPs of all types required is
dependent upon the type and number of SAN256N blades ordered. Refer to
the SAN256N n-type Blades section for details.

Summary: This feature provides an additional four shortwave SFP
transceivers, designed to provide Fibre Channel connections at distances
up to 300 meters while using the appropriate 50.0/125 micrometer fiber
optic cable, and distances up to 175 meters while using the appropriate
62.5/125 micrometer fiber optic cable.
(#2224) LW SFP Transceiver - 4 Pack
Summary: This feature provides an additional four longwave SFP
transceivers, designed to provide Fibre Channel connections at distances
up to 10 Km (6.2 miles), while using the appropriate 9.0/125 micrometer
single mode fiber optic cable.
Summary: This feature provides an additional four shortwave
SFP transceivers, designed to provide Fibre Channel connections
at distances up to 300 meters while using the appropriate 50.0/125
micrometer fiber optic cable, and distances up to 175 meters while
using the appropriate 62.5/125 micrometer fiber optic cable.
(#2224) LW SFP Transceiver - 4 Pack:
Summary: This feature provides an additional four longwave

Compatibility Conflicts: Combinations of all SFP Transceivers must
be ordered in increments of 16 transceivers.
Compatibility Conflicts: Combinations of all SFP Transceivers
must be ordered in increments equal to the number of available ports
on all SAN n-type blades ordered.

(#2235) Extended Distance 35 Km Longwave 2 GB SFP
Summary: The Extended Distance 35 Km Longwave 2 GB SFP option is
designed to provide extended distance up to 35 Km between supported
devices, while operating at 2 Gpbs. Dedicated port buffer credits within
the SAN256N director are designed to work with the 35 Km longwave 2 Gb
SFP to help users extend FCP and FICON Inter Switch Links (ISL)s up to 35
Km distance, in campus environments or metropolitan area networks. The
35 Km longwave 2 GB SFP is designed to be hot pluggable for use in any
port on the SAN256N 16 port blade (#5316).
(#2280) LW 80 Km 2 Gbps SFP Transceiver
Summary: The Extended Distance 80 Km Long Wave 2 Gigabit SFP option
is designed to provide (up to 80 km) Inter-Switch Links (ISLs) between
SAN256N directors while operating at 2 Gbps, depending upon optical cable
quality of the customer-provided dark fiber cable plant. The 80 Km Long
Wave 2 Gigabit SFP is designed to be hot pluggable for use in any port on
the SAN256N I/O blade (FC#5316). SAN256N 16 port I/O blades support both
shortwave and longwave SFP transceivers on the same module.
(#2235) Extended Distance 35 Km Longwave 2 Gbps SFP
Summary: The Extended Distance 35 Km Longwave 2 Gbps SFP option is
designed to provide extended, unrepeated distance up to 35 Km between
supported devices, while operating at 2 Gbps. Dedicated port
buffer credits within the SAN256N director are designed to
work with the 35 Km longwave 2 Gbps SFP to help users extend
FCP and FICON Inter-Switch Links (ISLs) up to 35 Km distance,
in campus environments or metropolitan area networks. The 35
Km longwave 2 Gbps SFP is designed to be hot pluggable for use
in any 1 or 2 Gbps port on the SAN256N n-type blades (#5316 and #5390).
