Software Update Subscription
Software Update Subscriptions for Microsoft Windows 2000 Datacenter
and Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Datacenter Edition are available for
Datacenter operating systems upgrades. Subscriptions are optional.
Software Update Subscriptions are valid for one year from the date you
purchase your Datacenter solution. They can be purchased at the same
time you order your Datacenter solution and can be renewed annually.
Subscriptions purchased after the original Datacenter purchase date are
only valid for one year from the original date.
This software offering gives you Operating System upgrade protection.
You can upgrade to the next Datacenter Operating System release for no
additional charge. Maintenance updates are not available from IBM for
the scalable Datacenter offering, maintenance is available directly from
Microsoft:

Datacenter Operating System Migration (Upgrades)
IBM Datacenter Scalable Solutions are meant to be sold exclusively
with "new", tested and certified xSeries server models. On occasions we
will have customers who currently own IBM xSeries servers that can
provide 8-way or greater processor support, are currently running other
Microsoft Windows or OEM operating systems and want to migrate to a
Microsoft Datacenter solution.
IBM can offer those customers a Datacenter operating system upgrade
solution on a special bid basis.
IBM Sales representatives should notify their geography Marketing
Product Manager and Sales Managers of these opportunities, who should
notify the World Wide Marketing Product Manager of the sales opportunity.
Business Partners should notify their IBM Sales Representative, who
should engage with geography Product Marketing and Sales Managers.
Customers who currently own xSeries servers that support greater than
8-way processor support will be required have their servers meet the
configuration requirements for a Datacenter "system' solution and also
conduct a Solutions Assurance Review.
After the systems are validated and meet the requirements for a
Datacenter Scalable solution, the Datacenter Scalable Operating System
upgrade can be purchased at a negotiated special bid price.
Software Upgrade Descriptions
IBM Software Upgrade to Microsoft Windows 2000 Datacenter (1-8 way)
(4818-ECX) and IBM Software Upgrade to Microsoft Windows Server 2003
Datacenter Edition (1-8 way) (4818-EDX) are available for the xSeries 445
Datacenter Solutions. IBM Software Upgrade to Microsoft Windows Server
2003 Datacenter Edition (1-4 way) (4818-EBX) is available for the xSeries
455 Datacenter Solution.
Note: These upgrades are not Software Update Subscription operating
system upgrades. These upgrades are Special Bid only and are for
customers migrating to Datacenter from other Microsoft Windows or OEM

Hardware Configurations
All hardware configurations must begin with a xSeries 445 or 455
Datacenter model. This is important as the Microsoft Datacenter
Operating system is only available with xSeries 445 or 455
Datacenter models. Additional options such as memory, I/O adapters,
HDDs, cables, and external storage devices, are ordered separately as
part of the total configuration.
xSeries Datacenter 445 models must be ordered in matched quantities of
two to create a 16-way SMP solution (two matched 8-ways combined form a
16-way capable system).

processors of the same type, speed, and cache size and connecting to an

xSeries 445 servers are intended for use as rack-drawer
servers and are tested and designed to operate in a horizontal position.

xSeries 445 Datacenter Solution
- Standard xSeries 445 Datacenter models contain a maximum of eight
processors as standard. If a customer needs to upgrade to a 16 way
system an additional 8-way 445 Datacenter system will be required plus
additional cabling.
- The xSeries 445 Datacenter Scalable servers contain 2 SMP expansion
modules with 32 DIMM sockets. A maximum of 32 GB of system memory per
SMP expansion module is supported by adding a 2 GB PC2100 ECC ECC SDRAM
RDIMM in each of the 16 DIMM sockets for a total capacity of 64 GB. All
supported system memory is addressable through direct memory access.
- The xSeries 445 uses 72-bit Dual Data Rate (DDR) SDRAM Registered
Dual In-line Memory Modules (RDIMMs) in sizes ranging from 512 MB to 2
GB. The system is shipped with 4 GB memory and can be expanded to 32 GB
per SMP Expansion module using 16 x 2 GB DIMMs. xSeries 445 memory is
two-way interleaved, DIMMs must be added two at a time. Each group of
two DIMMs must be the same memory size. Different groups can be 512 MB,
1 GB, or 2 GB DIMMs. Supported RDIMMs can coexist in the same server;
however, due to two-way interleaving, memory RDIMMs of the same capacity
must be installed in matched sets of two. Refer to the xSeries server
Web page for memory options.
- The two 1200-watt power supplies standard with xSeries 445 produce
the full 1200 watt power rating when connected to 220 V ac power sources.
When connected to 110 V ac, they produce 600 watts of power for system
use. This power may be insufficient to provide n+n redundancy in full
configurations. For this reason, the xSeries 445 server should be
connected to 220-watt power sources.
For attended recovery of an operating system, this server requires a
compatible:
Unattended or remote recovery may be performed without requiring some
or all of these components. Review your unattended software installation
program information for specific hardware configuration requirements.
