The xSeries 306 servers are ultrathin, rack-optimized network servers
using industry-standard architectures. They contain 64-bit PCI-X and PCI
bus architectures.
These rack platforms contain:
- 3.4 GHz Pentium 4 processor with EM64T and 800 MHz front side bus, 1
MB L2 cache, 512 MB of system memory and EM64T.
Additional standard features include integrated SATA controller, an
SVGA video controller with 16 MB of video memory, Integrated Dual Gigabit
(10/100/1000 Mbps) Ethernet controllers, 24x-10x IDE CD-ROM, and 1.44 MB
diskette drive. SCSI model contain an Ultra320 SCSI PCI adapter.
Models with a SATA are open bay models supporting Simple-swap 80 GB or
160 GB SATA HDDs.
Models with a standard SCSI drive contain a IBM 36.4 GB 15,000 rpm
Ultra320 HDD.

Note: (10) These servers are certified by the respective UL and NOM
agencies.
- Temperature:
- 10.0 to 35.0 degrees C (50 to 95 degrees F) (Server on)
- 0.0 to 60.0 degrees C (-32 to 140 degrees F) (Server off)
- Relative humidity: 8% to 80%
- Maximum altitude: 2,133 m (7,000 ft)
- The xSeries 306 servers support a maximum of 4 GB of system memory
when you remove the original DIMMs and add a 1 GB in each of the four
DIMM slots. All supported system memory is addressable through DMA.
These servers support 256 MB, 512 MB, and 1 GB PC2700 CL2.5 ECC DDR DDR
UDIMM at 333 MHz and 72-bits or PC3200 CL3 ECC DDR DDR UDIMM 400 MHz
72-bit memory. All supported DIMMs can coexist in the same system but
will operate at the speed of the slowest memory installed.
- To ensure proper air flow for cooling, the xSeries 306 server
requires a rack with a perforated door.
- Processor upgrades are not supported.
- Use the version of ServerGuide shipped with the system, or a later
version, to load software and drivers. Earlier versions of ServerGuide
may not be compatible with the server.
Refer to the Software Requirements section for operating
system limitations.
For attended installation of an operating system, this server requires
a compatible:
- Keyboard
- Mouse
- HDD
- Display
Unattended or remote installation may be performed without requiring
some or all of these components. Review your unattended software
installation program information for specific hardware configuration
requirements.
For service, the server requires a compatible:
- Keyboard
- Mouse
- HDD
- Display
When having the unit serviced, plan to have these components attached
to your server either directly or indirectly via a console switch.
