(#9002) Storage Unit Attachment
This feature notifies the plant of control that a Tape Storage Frame
Model S10 is attached to the Model L1x in a position within the first
eight frames. This feature code is required for new orders and string
reconfigurations. One #9002 must be applied to the Model L1x for each
Model S10 that is attached. This is required to assure that proper
cables are shipped and configuration records are correct.
An RPQ request must be processed prior to string reconfigurations.
This includes moving FC #5300, #5302, #5304, #5400 Models D10, D12, D14,
and S10 from attachment on one 3494 to another. This will ensure that
the proper cables are available for this move and future
changes/enhancements and to update MLC records.

orders and string reconfigurations. One #9003 must be applied to the
Model L1x for each Model D10, D12, or D14 that is attached. This is
required to assure that proper cables are shipped and configuration
records are correct.
An RPQ request must be processed prior to string reconfigurations.
This includes moving FC #5300, #5302, #5304, #5400 or Models D10, D12,

A mirrored dual disk is now standard in the library manager of the
3494. For a Model L10, L12, or L14 shipped prior to November 1, 1999,
the second disk drive feature provides a second disk drive that has a
copy of the data base and statistics from the primary disk drive of the
library manager. This provides the capability to recover the library
manager data base in case of the failure of the primary disk drive, which
may decrease the time to get back in operation.
Maximum: One.
Field Installation: MES Only.
(#5215) Dual Gripper
Provides accessor performance enhancement in the 3494, for longer

(#5222) Additional 32 LAN Host Attachments
This feature provides an update to the microcode firmware of an
installed PCI Library Manager feature (#5046 or #9046) to support up to
64 LAN attached open system hosts. This is double the 32 LAN attached
open system hosts previously available. This capability is included in
the LAN PCI Library Manager feature (#5047 or #9047). The LAN interface
can be through either the Ethernet LAN Adapter feature (#5220) or the
Token Ring Adapter feature (#5219). Support is provided for up to 32

Field Installation: Yes.
(#5225) Base Tape Control Unit Attachment
This feature includes an attachment card that provides four RS232 open
system host connections and four tape control unit serial attachments to
the 3494 library manager (LM). This feature is not required if all open
system attached tape drives are connected to the LM with an EASH
attachment, or if LAN attachment to open system hosts is used instead of
an RS232 attachment. If this feature is added to a 3494 that includes
Model HA1 Frames, the other LM must also have this capability.
- Maximum: One.
- Required:
- If feature #5047 or #9047 is installed and any feature #53xx or #55xx
frame is installed on the 3494 Model Lxx.

(#5226) Remote Console
The Remote Console feature gives the customer the capability of
controlling or monitoring the operations and status of the 3494 from a
remote location. The remote terminal can be located anywhere on the
customer supplied Local Area Network (LAN) and will operate at the LAN
communication rate. Connection to the 3494 main console is password
controlled. The remote terminal can control or monitor the status of up
to a maximum of sixteen 3494 library managers. A separate feature is
required for each 3494 that is to be connected to the LAN. If the Model
HA1 Frames are attached to the 3494, the software can be loaded in both
library managers.
The Remote Console feature #5226 includes the software that is needed

(#5227) 32 Port Attachment
This feature provides 16 additional RS-422 tape control unit
connections for the library manager on a 3494 Tape Library Base Frame.
Use of this feature along with the Expansion Attachment Card (#5229)
provides for a total of 24 RS-422 control unit connections and eight
RS-232 host processor connections. When feature #5227 is installed with
one or two Tape Control Unit Expansion features (#5228), the number of
available tape control unit connections is increased by 16 over the
numbers shown in the table with feature #5228. This allows up to 32 SCSI
or Fibre-Channel attached tape drives to be installed in the library.
This feature is required a Model HA1 when this feature is installed on
the library manager of the Tape Library Base Frame Model L10, L12, or L14
of that 3494.
Maximum: One.
Prerequisite: Feature #5229.
Plant or Field Installable.
Note: If the Model L10, L12, or L14 was installed prior to August, 1998,
you must have one of the following features installed:
- Feature #9020 (Model B20, B10, or B18 VTS Attachment)
- Feature #9040 (High Availability Direct Attachment)
- Feature #5045 (Enhanced Library Manager)
(#5228) Tape Control Unit Expansion
No feature 5228 is required if the Model HA1 Frames are attached (as
it is included as standard with that attachment).
This feature applies to the library manager of the 3494 and expands
the number of tape control units that can be attached to the library
manager. One feature will convert 4 RS-232 host processor connections
into 4 tape control unit connections on either the base library manager
or the Expansion Attachment Card (#5229). When combined with other
interface features (see table below), up to 16 tape control units can be
connected to the Library Manager.
If all available RS-232 host processor connections are converted to
tape control unit connections, and you are connecting to a SCSI host, a
LAN adapter card will be required to provide the host processor
connection as shown below:

L1x with installation of this feature.
Attachment of more than six 3590 Tape Drives, up to a maximum of 12,
in two drive frames to a Model B20, B10, or B18 VTS, requires the
Additional Drives Support feature (#9011) on the Model L10, L12, or L14
if using the Drive Unit for Model B18 VTS feature #5502 as the first
drive frame. The Model B18 VTS must have the Additional VTS Drives

another. This will ensure that the proper cables are available for this
move and future changes/enhancements and to update MLC records.
(#5503) SCSI Drive Unit
This feature must be ordered on an MES for the Model L1x when a Model
B16 VTS is upgraded to a Model B18 VTS, and the Model B16 VTS frame is
converted into a SCSI Drive Unit (similar to a Tape Drive Expansion Frame
Model D12). This converted frame becomes a feature on the Model L1x. It
contains the mounting hardware for three to four Magstar 3590 Tape Drives
that will be SCSI attached to host system SCSI adapters. This drive unit
frame is a frame containing additional storage (up to 290 cartridges)
that is attached to the 3494. Order RPQ 8B3167 for the mounting hardware
for the installation of the fifth and sixth tape drives. Feature #5500,
#5502, #9006, or #9007 must be removed from the Model L1x with
installation of this feature.
Maximum: One.
Field installation only.
An RPQ request must be processed prior to string reconfigurations.
This includes moving this feature #5503 from attachment on one 3494 to
another. This will ensure that the proper cables are available for this
move and future changes/enhancements and to update MLC records.
(#5504) ESCON Drive Unit
This feature must be ordered on an MES for the Model L1x when a Model
B16 VTS is upgraded to a Model B18 VTS, and the Model B16 VTS frame is

L1x. It contains the mounting hardware for one to two Magstar 3590 Tape
Drives and one 3590 Model A50 Controller that can be attached to host
system ESCON channels. This drive unit frame is a frame containing
additional storage (up to 345 cartridges) that is attached to the 3494.
Order RPQ 8B3168 for the mounting hardware for the installation of the
third and fourth tape drives. Feature #5500, #5502, #9006, or #9007 must
be removed from the Model L1x with installation of this feature.
