The IBM TotalStorage Virtual Tape Server (VTS) integrates IBM
TotalStorage Enterprise 3590 Tape Drives, a RISC-based controller, RAID
disk storage, and the IBM TotalStorage Enterprise Automated Tape Library
to provide a FICON, ESCON, and SCSI attached hierarchical storage
management system for multiple servers. The VTS provides the tape
control unit function for the virtual drives and the hierarchical storage
management function for management of the tape volume cache and the 3590
stacked volumes. The Model B20 VTS contains a RS/6000 symmetric
multiprocessing processor, server attachments, attachment of four to
twelve tape drives, and IBM fault-tolerant RAID disk storage. It
includes up to eight FICON channels, up to 16 ESCON channels, up to eight
SCSI bus attachments, support of up to 256 virtual tape drive addressing,
and over 5 TB of disk storage capacity. The VTS is externally attached
to the 3494 Tape Library with SCSI cables to 3590 Tape Drives in an
associated Model D12 Tape Drive Expansion Frame (or feature #5502), and
with Fibre Channel cables to 3592 Tape Drives in an associated Model D22
Tape Drive Expansion Frame. The VTS is also attached via a LAN
connection to the library manager in the 3494 Model L10, L12 or L14 Tape
Library Base Frame. The VTS can alternatively be attached to 3592 Tape
Drives in a 3584 Tape Library via a 3953 Library Manager Model L05.
PtP VTS Configuration
A VTS with the Peer-to-Peer Copy features is an independently
operating distributed server node in a PtP VTS configuration. The PtP
VTS configuration interconnects two VTSs with Virtual Tape Controllers
(VTCs) to provide both remote and local peer-to-peer copy capability
between two VTSs using ESCON or FICON connections. A pair of
interconnected Model B20 VTSs in a PtP VTS configuration will appear to
host processors as a single image VTS. The VTS incorporates channel
commands to support large block transfers of compressed logical volumes
to and from the VTCs. It will automatically create a copy of any newly
created or updated volume in either VTS transparently to customer
applications with no host processor resources required to copy virtual
volumes. Either volume copy can be used to satisfy a specific mount
request. Functions allow the VTC to maintain copy synchronization of the
two VTSs and provide expedited deletion of redundant logical volume
copies from the tape volume cache. The interconnected VTSs and VTCs can
be in separate locations to allow remote copy for remote vaulting
applications.

The following combinations of VTS models can be configured:
Advanced Function/Advanced Policy Management
The Advanced Function feature (#4000) provides tape volume cache
management and export/import capability. The tape volume cache
management capability can be used with VTSs included in a VTS
Peer-to-Peer configuration. However, when feature #4000 is included in
configurations that include the Peer-to-Peer Copy Base feature (#4010),
the import/export function will be disabled. The Enterprise Tape Library
must have a Convenience I/O Station (either #5210 or #5230) if
import/export is enabled.
Advanced Policy Management
Volume Pooling, Selective Dual Copy, or Peer-to-Peer Copy Mode Control
require the Advanced Policy Management feature (#4001) and depending on
disk storage capacity, additional features may be required. The Tape
Volume Cache Management capability, Volume Pooling, Selective Dual Copy,
and Peer-to-Peer Copy Mode Control can also be used with VTSs included in
a PtP VTS. However, when feature #4000 or #4001 is included in
configurations that include the Peer-to-Peer Copy Base feature (#4010),
the import/export function will be disabled. The Advanced Policy
Management feature requires:
- Four or more 3590 tape drives associated with the VTS.
- The 10-Cartridge Convenience I/O Station (#5210), or the 30-Cartridge
Convenience I/O Station feature (#5230), must be installed on the IBM
TotalStorage Enterprise Tape Library Base Frame 3494 Model L10, L12, or
L14 if the Import/Export functions are to be used.
- At least 216 GB of cache storage when volume pools are defined.
- If installed on a 3494 Model B18, the Performance Accelerator (#5236)
is required.
Disk Capacity feature requirements with their associated Advanced
Policy Management features are:
Disk Capacity Disk Features Advanced Policy
(uncompressed) Qty. / Feature # Management Features
-------------- ---------------- --------------------------
Up to 1000 GB 2 / #3705 #4001, #4002, #4003
Up to 2000 GB 4 / #3705 #4001, #4002, #4003, #4004
The Advanced Policy Management feature may be installed on both VTSs
of a PtP VTS configuration. The Import/Export function is inoperable
when the Peer-to-Peer copy feature is installed. Use of volume pooling
or dual copy may result in a need to increase tape volume cache capacity
and the number of 3590 Tape Drives. Use of dual copy may reduce the
bandwidth available to host servers during peak periods of server
activity.
The device driver support for SCSI Host Attachment (#3422) does not
include the support for the Advanced policy management (#4001).
VTS functional enhancements
All shipments of the 3494 VTS Models B10 and B20 shipped after June 3,
2005, include support for attachment to a 3953 Library Manager Model L05,
larger logical volume sizes, more logical volumes per VTS, secure data
erase, high-capacity cache options, and PtP VTS mode select enhancements.
Support for these functional enhancements on an installed VTS Model B10
or B20 requires a functional microcode firmware update by ordering the
following feature:
- #0521 (Functional Enhancement Field) on the 3494 VTS Model B10 or
B20. This requires the microcode firmware of the library manager (LM) in
the 3494 Base Frame (and Model HA1 Frame if applicable) to be at level
531, or later, which may require an update to that microcode firmware.
Note: An upgrade to the LM hardware in the 3494 may also be required to
support this microcode firmware update. Any 3494 Model L1x with feature
number 9020, or one that has a LM installed since May 15, 2000, should
have a "compatible" LM that will work with this new microcode firmware.
Any prior LM is not "compatible" and must be replaced by ordering the LAN
PCI Library Manager feature (#5047) on the 3494 Tape Library Model HA1,
L10, L12, or L14. If the LM microcode level is at 527.xx, or later, then
the LM hardware prerequisites are already satisfied. The LM microcode
level can be checked by selecting "About" from the "Help" pull-down menu
on the LM Operator Menu. You may need the assistance of a customer
engineer to determine if the LAN PCI Library Manager feature (#5047) must
be ordered.
3953 attachment
Tape drives in a 3584 Tape Library can be attached to a VTS Model B10
or B20. The following feature must be added to the 3494 Model B10 or B20
to indicate attachment to 3592 Tape Drives in a 3584 Tape Library instead
of to tape drives in a 3494 Tape Library:
- 9217 (Attachment to 3953 Library Manager)
Larger logical volume sizes
Options for Data Class support the definition of a maximum storage
capacity for a logical volume. The default volume sizes of 400 and 800
MB, correspond to the supported 3490 media types of Cartridge System Tape
(CST) and Enhanced Capacity Cartridge System Tape (ECCST). If a maximum
volume size is defined, the size definition will override the default for
that media type when a volume is mounted as a scratch volume. Defined
sizes other than the default media type are 1000, 2000, and 4000 MB
(where a MB is 1024x1024 bytes). This function requires installation of
the Advanced Policy Management feature (#4001 to #4004) on the VTS.
Use of the 4000 MB size requires a VTS Model B20 with a quantity four
of the 288/432 GB Disk Storage feature (#3705) and attached 3592 Tape
Drives.
Note: This function is disabled if the High Capacity Cache feature
(#4020) is installed.
Increased logical volumes
The base number of 250,000 logical volumes of a 3494 VTS Model B20 is
increased with the addition of the following feature:
- 4036 (Increased Logical Volumes) - Each order of this feature
increases the maximum number of logical volumes supported by 50,000, up
to a maximum of 500,000.
For a VTS Model B20 installed prior to June 3, 2005, this may require
the Functional Enhancement Field feature (#0521) as described above.
Note: Installation of this feature will reduce the amount of available
customer storage on the physical volumes. This is because the amount of
space reserved for the database used for disaster recovery of a VTS
subsystem is increased from 250 MB to 500 MB.
High Capacity Cache
A special VTS configuration provides a replacement product for
customers currently storing DFSMSoam data on a 3995 Optical Library.
When ordered, the following features replace the normal VTS disk storage
feature (#3705) to enable the VTS to operate in this mode:
- 4020 (High Capacity Cache) replaces the VTS disk storage with 6.7 TB
of physical capacity through the use of 146 GB disk drives, and sets the
logical capacity to configure up to 1.67 TB of data and 2000 logical
volumes.
- 4021 (Expanded Storage Capacity) expands the storage capacity by an
additional 1.67 TB, and 2000 logical volumes. It can be ordered up to a
quantity of three.
Use of the High Capacity Cache feature requires:
- The attachment of 3592 Tape Drives, or 3590 Model E1A or H1A Tape
Drives, to the VTS
- Four ESCON or FICON channels, which cannot be intermixed:
- Extended Performance ESCON Channels feature (#3412), quantity two
- Long Wave FICON Channel feature (#3415), quantity four
- Short Wave FICON Channel feature (#3416), quantity four
VTS 3592 Tape Drive support
The VTS Model B10 or B20 can attach the 3592 Enterprise Tape Drive
Model J1A that is installed in an associated 3494 Expansion Frame Model
D22. The VTS Model B10 can attach either the 3592 Model J1A Tape Drives
or 3590 Tape Drives. Intermixing of tape drive types on a Model B10 is
not supported. The VTS Model B10 can attach 4 to 12 3592 Tape Drives.
The VTS Model B20 can have both 3590 and 3592 Tape Drives attached to the
same VTS. If only 3592 Tape Drives are attached to the VTS Model B20,
there can be 4 to 12 3592 Tape Drives contained in one 3494 Model D22
Frame (and all the 3592 Tape Drives must be in that same frame). If both
3590 and 3592 Tape Drives are attached to a Model B20, four to six 3590
Tape Drives are contained in one 3494 Model D12 Frame and 4 to 12 3592
Tape Drives are contained in one 3494 Model D22 Frame. Both standard
(300 GB) and economy (60 GB) 3592 cartridge media are supported, however
the VTS does not support WORM cartridge media or the scaling of standard
cartridge media to smaller capacities. Exported stacked volumes created
on 3592 Model J1A Tape Drives cannot be imported into a 3590 Tape Drive
VTS homogeneous configuration.
When adding a Model D22 Frame with 3592 Tape Drives to an installed
VTS subsystem, there must be enough cartridge slots available in the 3494
Tape Library to add the additional 3592 tape cartridges. If there are
not enough available slots, an additional storage frame may need to be
ordered, or the new reclamation policies can be used to consolidate 3590
cartridges to free up cartridge slots in the 3494 Tape Library.
Note: If both Models D12 and D22 are attached to a Model B20, the Models
D12 and D22 are not required to be adjacent in the 3494 Tape Library
configuration.
To attach the 3592 Tape Drives to the VTS, the following features must
be installed:
- On the VTS Model B10 or B20:
- 5238 (3592 Drive Attached to VTS) - to provide the 3592 attachment
cards, and cables from the VTS to the 2Gb Fibre Channel Switches in the
3494 Model D22 Frame. This feature is available for plant installation
only on the VTS Model B10. The maximum distance between the VTS and a
3494 Model D22 Frame is 25 meters.
- 5245 (Dual Path Attachment) - to provide a second internal LAN
attachment.
- 4001 to 4004 (Advanced Policy Management) - required on the Model B20
if both 3590 and 3592 Tape Drives are attached.
- On the associated 3494 Model D22 Frame:
- 1901 (Dual AC Power) is recommended if a Model HA1 is attached to the
3494 Tape Library.
- 3060 (3592 Drive-to-Switch Cables) - one feature for each 3592 Tape
Drive should be ordered to provide the cables from the 3592 Tape Drives
to the 2Gb Fibre Channel Switch.
- 3486 (2Gb Fibre Drive Attachment) - provides mounting hardware to
install two 2Gb Fibre Channel Switches in the 3494 Model D22 Frame.
- 3487 (2Gb Fibre Channel Switch) - provides one 2Gb Fibre Channel
Switch for the 3494 Model D22 Frame. A quantity of two must be ordered.
- 9010 (Attached to a VTS) - to designate that this 3494 Model D22
Frame is associated with a VTS.
Note: The 3592 Model J1A is not supported for installation in the 3494
frame features (#5302, #5304, #5502, #5503, or #5504). A VTS microcode
update will be shipped with the addition of the 3592 Model J1A Tape
Drives in a 3494 Model D22 associated with a VTS. The VTS microcode
support of the 3592 Model J1A Tape Drives (VTS code level 2.31.730.xx, or
later) requires that the 3494 library manager (LM) be at LM code level
530.xx, or later. A new LM may be required to support the 3592 Model J1A
Tape Drive. Any 3494 Model L1x with feature number 9020, or one that has
a LM installed since May 15, 2000, should have a "compatible" LM that
will work with the 3592 Model J1A. Any prior LM is not "compatible" and
must be replaced. If the LM microcode level is at 527.xx, or later, then
the LM hardware prerequisites are already satisfied. The LM microcode
level can be checked by selecting "About" from the "Help" pull-down menu
on the LM Operator Menu. You may need the assistance of a customer
engineer to determine if the LAN PCI Library Manager feature (#5047) must
be ordered.
ESCON SFF to Duplex conversion cable
The Extended Performance ESCON Channels feature (#3412) now comes with
an MT-RJ connector. The ESCON cables shipped with feature #3412 have an
MT-RJ connector on one end, for connection to feature #3412, and a ESCON
Duplex connector on the other end. An 62.5-Micron MT-RJ to ESCON 2 meter
ESCON Jumper Cable feature (#9775) can be ordered to connect that cable
to host MT-RJ connectors. When pre-existing ESCON cables are planned to
be used instead of the ESCON cables normally shipped with feature #3412,
the jumper cable feature #9775 should be specified to connect those
pre-existing cables to the MT-RJ ESCON channel connector on the VTS. Up
to four of feature #9775 can be ordered for each feature #3412.
VTS Model B20 PtP support for four VTCs
The VTS Model B20 is supported in a PtP configuration with four VTCs,
with each VTC having 32 virtual devices for a total of 128 virtual
devices. To enable support of this configuration, the following feature
should be ordered instead of the 64 Additional Virtual Drives feature
(#5264):
- 5265 (Incremental Virtual Drives) - a quantity of two must be ordered
on the Model B20.
Feature #5264 is no longer available for a newly built Model B20. It
is only available as a field only MES when converting from a Model B18
that has the feature #5264 to a Model B20 that requires two #5264
features.
A configuration of eight VTCs, with each VTC having 32 virtual device
for a total of 256 virtual devices, can now be obtained when a quantity
of four of feature #5265 is on the Model B20.
The following PtP configurations are available:
Minimum # Total #
of Virtual Qty of Qty of of Virtual
VTS Drives #5264 #5265 Drives PtP Configuration
--- ---------- ------- ------- ---------- -----------------------
B10 64 - - 64 4 VTCs w/16 devices/VTC
B20 128 0 0 128 8 VTCs w/16 devices/VTC
B20 128 0 2 128 4 VTCs w/32 devices/VTC
B20 128 2(1) 0 256 8 VTCs w/32 devices/VTC
B20 128 0 4 256 8 VTCs w/32 devices/VTC
Note: (1) Feature #5264 should only be ordered when converting a Model
B18 with one #5264 (support for 128 devices) to a Model B20 with two of
#5264 (support of 256 devices total).
Convert 8 VTC to 4 VTC PtP
To convert from an 8 VTC to a 4 VTC VTS Model B20 PtP configuration,
the following feature must be ordered on each VTS in that PtP
configuration:
- 1026 (Convert 8 VTC to 4 VTC PtP)
8 VTC Model B18 to 4 VTC Model B20: The above feature
number 1026 must be ordered on a MES with the B18 to B20 model
conversion, and is only valid on a B18 to convert that to a Model B20.
At least four channel adapter features must be removed from the Model B18
with its conversion to a Model B20. In addition, a VTS Model B20 with
four attached VTCs requires a quantity two of feature number 5265
(Incremental Virtual Drives). A feature conversion is available to
convert the feature number 5264 (64 Additional Virtual Drives) to one
feature number 5265, and the second feature number 5265 must be added.
8 VTC Model B20 to 4 VTC Model B20: The above feature
number 1026 must be ordered on a MES for each Model B20. At least four
channel adapter features must be removed from the Model B20. A VTS Model
B20 with four attached VTCs requires a quantity two of feature number
5265 (Incremental Virtual Drives). If the VTS Model B20 has two of
feature number 5264 (64 Additional Virtual Drives), they can be converted
into two of feature number 5265. If the VTS Model B20 has four of
feature number 5265, then two will have to be removed. If the VTS Model
B20 has zero of feature number 5265, then two will have to be added.
8 VTC 4 VTC Model CX0/CX1: The conversion from an 8 to 4
VTC PtP configuration may require a Model CX0 to Model CX1 conversion or
a conversion of the existing VTCs in a Model CX1. If the Model CX0 or
CX1 does not match the required configuration, the necessary features
(#11xx, #1023, #1024, or #1025) or feature conversions must be ordered on
the Model CX1. Based on the Model CX0's or CX1's final configuration,
the required corresponding host adapters may also need to be ordered on
the VTSs.
Dual Path Attachment on VTS
The Dual Path Attachment feature (#5245) is required when the 3592
Drive Attached to VTS feature (#5238) is installed on a VTS Model B10 or
B20. This also requires adding the Dual Concentrator feature (#5246) to
the Model Lxx Frame if it is not already installed. The Dual Path
Attachment is recommended on all VTS systems with 3592 Tape Drives
attached for improved availability.
Model B18 to B20 Conversion
When converting a Model B18 to a Model B20, the following features may
need to be ordered concurrently with that upgrade:
- On the Model B20:
- 3705 (Disk Storage) - convert or remove Disk Storage features #3702,
#3703, or #3704 and add additional #3705 to total two or four of #3705
- 5235 (20 Meter SCSI Drive Cables) - one or two, and remove features
#5234 and #5237
- Channel attachments - add sufficient FICON, ESCON, or SCSI features
of the following (or convert features #3200, 3302, or 3418) to equal one
of the valid Model B20 VTS attachment configuration options:
- 3412 (Extended High Performance ESCON Channels)
- 3415 (Long Wavelength FICON Channel)
- 3416 (Short Wavelength FICON Channel)
- 3422 (SCSI Host Attachment)
Note: FICON Enablement is prerequisite for FICON attachments. Also, to
convert a Model B18 in a PtP configuration to a Model B20 PtP
configuration with FICON channels, the Model B18 must first be converted
to a Model B20 and then the channels can be converted from ESCON to FICON
afterwards.
- 5236 (Performance Accelerator) must be removed as the function is
included in a Model B20
- 5265 (Incremental Virtual Drives) - zero, two, or four depending on
the configuration (two of #5265 must be installed for a 4 VTC PtP
configuration)
- On the associated Model D12 (that was attached to the Model B18):
- 9011 (Additional Drives Support) must be on each Model D12 that is
attached to a Model B20
- 9012 (Attach Additional Drives) must be removed if present
- On the 3494 Model L10, L12, or L14:
- 9011 (Additional Drives Support) one for each Drive Unit for B18
feature (#5502) that is attached to a VTS Model B20
- 9021 (Virtual Drives Enhancement) one for each VTS Model B20 that is
attached, and this feature must also be on the 3494 Model HA1 if that
model is included in the 3494 Tape Library
- If the Model B18 is in a PtP configuration, add VTCs and the
associated Model CX0 or CX1 Frames (required if the Model B20 would not
have only two of #5265 installed)
Note: Parts removed or replaced become the property of IBM and must be
returned.
Model B10 to B20 Conversion
When converting a VTS Model B10 to a Model B20, the following features
may need to be ordered on the Model B20 concurrently with that upgrade:
- 3705 (Disk Storage) - convert Disk Storage feature #3704 and add
additional #3705 features to total two or four of #3705
- 5265 (Incremental Virtual Drives) - zero, two, or four depending on
the configuration
- Add sufficient FICON or ESCON channel features of the following (or
convert feature 3418) to equal one of the valid Model B20 VTS attachment
configuration options:
- If the Model B10 is in a PtP configuration, add additional VTCs and
the associated Model CX0 or CX1 Frames (required if the Model B20 would
not have only two of #5265 installed)
- If the Model B10 is in a PtP configuration with a Model B18, the
Model B18 must first be converted to a Model B20
Note: Parts removed or replaced become the property of IBM and must be
returned.
Model B16 Migration
To enable migration of an installed Model B16 VTS to a new Model B10
or B20 VTS, an installed Model B16 can be converted to a Tape Drive
Expansion Frame Model D12. The following features must be ordered on the
Model L10, L12, or L14 concurrently with that model conversion:
- 9003 (Drive Unit Attachment) must be added if feature number 9006
(Virtual Tape Server Attachment) is installed and that feature number
9006 must be removed
- 9005 (Drive Unit Attachment Greater Than 8 Frames) must be added if
feature number 9007 (Virtual Tape Server Attachment Greater Than 8
Frames) is installed and that feature number 9007 must be removed
Features for installing tape drives or any other Model D12 features
can be added to the converted Model D12. This conversion provides for
migrating the data off of a Model B16 on to a locally installed VTS
containing no data (uninitialized).
RS/6000 or pSeries Attachment
The VTS can attach to SCSI adapters on RS/6000 or pSeries systems with
the SCSI Host Attachment feature (#3422). Each #3422 feature provides
two SCSI bus host attachments and includes data compression compatible
with the ESCON High Performance Option. Each bus provides up to 16
virtual devices and emulates 3490E tape drives. This feature is
supported on selected RS/6000 systems with the appropriate software
support (refer to the Software Requirements section). The VTS
must have the following:
- An attached ESCON host system or "Call Home" capability enabled for

Tape Specialists
A number of storage "specialists" are available that provide
interfaces to enable you to monitor and manage specific storage devices.
Two Specialists are available on the 3494:
- The IBM TotalStorage Enterprise 3494 Tape Library Specialist is a
system-independent, web-based user interface to the 3494 library manager,
which enables you to monitor the library manager and attached Virtual
Tape Servers from a remote location. Connection to customer LANs will be
through the Token-Ring Adapter (#5219) or the Ethernet Adapter (#5220)
features on the Model L10, L12, or L14 Tape Library Base Frame.
- The IBM TotalStorage Peer-to-Peer Virtual Tape Server Specialist is
the web-based user interface used to view the current status and
configuration of the PtP VTS configuration. This Specialist requires a
customer supplied Ethernet network which is connected to the Model AX0
Virtual Tape Controllers.
The IBM TotalStorage Virtual Tape Server (VTS) appears to host systems
as 4, 8, or 16 fully configured "3490E" tape subsystems. The software
support is the same as the support for 3490E. The minimum levels of
currently supported software support for 3490E are listed below.

VTS that attaches to the VTCs in the VTS Peer-to-Peer configuration.
(#4011) Peer-to-Peer Copy Increment 1
This feature extends the VTS to function in a VTS Peer-to-Peer
configuration when greater than 250 GB (up to 750 GB compressed) of
usable disk storage capacity is installed. This feature is required on a
Model B20 in a VTS Peer-to-Peer configuration because the minimum
configuration is greater than 250 GB.
- Maximum: One.
- Prerequisite: Feature #4010.
- Plant or field installable.
(#4012) Peer-to-Peer Copy Increment 2
This feature extends the VTS to function in a VTS Peer-to-Peer
configuration when greater than 500 GB of usable disk storage capacity is
installed. This feature is required on a Model B20 in a VTS Peer-to-Peer
configuration because the minimum configuration is greater than 500 GB.
- Maximum: One.
- Prerequisite: Features #4010 and #4011.
- Plant or Field Installation.
(#4013) Peer-to-Peer Copy Increment 3
This feature extends the VTS to function in a VTS Peer-to-Peer
configuration when greater than 1 TB of usable disk storage capacity is
installed. This feature is required on a Model B20 in a VTS Peer-to-Peer
configuration when four of feature #3705 are installed.
- Maximum: One.
- Prerequisites: Features #4010, #4011, #4012, and four of #3705.
- Plant or Field Installation.
(#4020) High Capacity Cache
This feature indicates to the VTS that it is being used as a
replacement for a 3995 Optical Library. The VTS will configure its
caching controls based on this feature. The physical disk capacity is
expanded to 6.7 TB through the use of 146 GB disk drives, and the logical
capacity is configured to store up to 1.67 TB of data, more than the
maximum capacity of a single 3995 Model C38 Optical Library. When this
feature is installed, the maximum logical volume size supported is 800
MB. The corresponding number of logical volumes is set to 2000 (based on
usage of the 800 MB capacity logical volumes).
(#4021) Expanded Storage Capacity
This feature expands the storage capacity of a VTS with the High
Capacity Cache feature (#4020). Each order of this feature increases the
storage capacity by an additional 1.67 TB of data, equal to more than the
maximum capacity of a single 3995 Model C38 Optical Library. It also
increases the number of logical volumes supported by 2000.
- Minimum: None Maximum: Three
- Plant or Field Installation
- Prerequisites: The High Capacity Cache feature (#4020)
(#4036) Increased Logical Volumes
This feature provides the system reconfiguration necessary to enable
addition of more logical volumes to the base number of 250,000. Each
order of this feature increases the maximum number of logical volumes
supported by 50,000, up to a maximum of 500,000.
Note: Installation of this feature will reduce the amount of available
customer storage on the physical volumes. This is because the amount of
space reserved for the database used for disaster recovery of a VTS
subsystem is increased from 250 MB to 500 MB.
- Minimum: None Maximum: Five
- Plant or Field Installation; Not removable
- Prerequisite: The Dual Path Attachment feature (#5245)
SCSI Cables
One or two of the following SCSI cables (#5001, #5002, #5003, or
