All DS8000 series licensed functions are enabled, authorized, managed,
activated, and enforced based upon the physical capacity contained in a
2107 system. In the context of licensed functions, these terms are
defined as follows:
- "2107 system" refers to the 2107 base unit and all physically
attached 2107 expansion units:
- A 2107 base unit refers to the Model 921, 922, and 9A2.
- A 2107 expansion unit refers to the Model 92E and 9AE.
"Enablement" refers to the selection of a 2107 licensed function
indicator feature number to technically activate the associated licensed
function.
"Authorization" refers to the acquisition of a DS8000 Series Function
Authorization (IBM 2244) feature number to establish the extent of IBM
authorization (license size in terms of physical capacity) for use of an
associated licensed function. This is also referred to as the
"authorization level."
"Management" refers to client use of the Disk Storage Feature
Activation (DSFA) application to select the license scope, assign the
license value, and deactivate a licensed function.
"Activation" refers to the client retrieval and installation of the
feature activation code into the 2107 system. The feature activation
code is made available by IBM and obtained using the DSFA application.
"Enforcement" refers to logic and other technology within the 2107's
Licensed Machine Code to maintain compliance with established IBM
authorization levels.
Enablement
Each licensed function is enabled for a 2107 system through the
selection of the appropriate licensed function indicator feature number
on the 2107 base unit.
Licensed Function Licensed Function Indicator
----------------------- ---------------------------
Operating environment 2107 feature number 0700
Point in time copy 2107 feature number 0720
Remote mirror and copy 2107 feature number 0740
Remote mirror for z/OS 2107 feature number 0760
Parallel access volumes 2107 feature number 0780
Each licensed function indicator feature selected on a 2107 base unit
enables that function at the system level. These features are not
selected on any attached 2107 expansion units.
Authorization
The extent of IBM authorization for the use of a licensed function on
a 2107 system is established by acquiring 2244 function authorization
models and feature numbers for the 2107 base unit:
Licensed Function Function Authorization
----------------------- ----------------------------------
Operating environment 2244 Model OEL feature number 70xx
Point in time copy 2244 Model PTC feature number 72xx
Remote mirror and copy 2244 Model RMC feature number 74xx
Remote mirror for z/OS 2244 Model RMZ feature number 76xx
Parallel access volumes 2244 Model PAV feature number 78xx
Each function authorization acquired for a 2107 base unit establishes
the authorization level for the 2107 system. For example, a system with
a Model 922 and two Model 92E expansion units requires only one operating
environment (2244 Model OEL) function authorization. Therefore, the
authorization level(s) established by acquiring one or more function
authorizations for the Model 922 must also cover the physical capacity of
the attached Model 92E expansion units.
Each function authorization acquired for the Model 9A2 establishes the
authorization level for all Storage System LPARs within the machine. For
example, a Model 9A2 with two Storage System LPARs requires only one
operating environment (2244 Model OEL) function authorization. However,
licensed functions are managed and activated at the Storage System LPAR
level; therefore, the total authorization level established by acquiring
function authorizations for the Model 9A2 may not need to cover the
physical capacity of the entire 2107 system.
The authorization level provided by each feature number is stated
within the feature number description. The unit represents physical
capacity, where a TB (terabyte) equals one trillion bytes. A 2107
system's total authorization level for a given licensed function is the
sum of the units (terabytes) associated with all the acquired feature
numbers.
Management
Licensed functions are managed using the Disk Storage Feature
Activation (DSFA) application at:
To access DSFA, you will be required to enter information about your
2107 machine. You can find this information on the Storage Unit General
Properties page in the IBM TotalStorage DS8000 Storage Manager
application.
Management activities include:
- Selection of a license scope
- Assignment of a license value
- Deactivation of a licensed function
License Scope: Licensed functions are activated and
enforced within a defined license scope. License scope refers to the
type of storage, and therefore the type of servers, that the function can
be used with:
- Fixed Block (FB):
- The function can be used only with data from Fibre Channel-attached
servers.
- Count Key Data (CKD):
- The function can be used only with data from FICON-attached servers.
- Both FB and CKD (ALL):
- The function can be used with data from all attached servers.
Selected licensed functions have multiple license scope options, while
other functions have only a single license scope.
Licensed Function License Scope Options
----------------------- ---------------------
Operating environment ALL
Point in time copy FB, CKD, or ALL
Remote mirror and copy FB, CKD, or ALL
Remote mirror for z/OS CKD
Parallel access volumes CKD
If a licensed function has multiple license scope options, you will be
required to select a license scope during the initial retrieval of the
feature activation code. This activity is performed using the DSFA
application.
The license scope is not selected while ordering function
authorization feature numbers; the feature numbers only establish the
extent of IBM authorization (in terms of physical capacity) regardless of
the storage type.
You can also change the license scope using the DSFA application after
a licensed function has been activated. A new feature activation code
will be generated and when you install it into the machine, the function
will be activated and enforced using the newly selected license scope.
Only an increase in the license scope (changing FB or CKD to ALL) is a
nondisruptive activity. A lateral change (changing FB to CKD or changing
CKD to FB) or a reduction of the license scope (changing ALL to FB or
CKD) is a disruptive activity and requires a machine IML.
On the Model 9A2, the license scope does not need to be the same for
each Storage System LPAR. For example, for the point in time copy
licensed function, you can select a license scope of FB for Storage
System LPAR 1 and a license scope of ALL for Storage System LPAR 2. You
can also change the license scope on a Storage System LPAR basis and if
the change is disruptive, you will only need to reboot the affected
Storage System LPAR.
License Value: Licensed functions are activated and
enforced based upon an assigned license value.
License value refers to extent of IBM authorization and is referenced
as terabytes (TB) of physical capacity.
On the Models 921 and 922, license value assignment is an optional
activity you can perform using the DSFA application.
On these models, the feature activation codes will always be generated
using the total license value for each licensed function, unless you
assign a license value of zero (0.0 TB).
On the Model 9A2, license value assignment is a required activity that
you perform using the DSFA application.
On this model, the license value does not need to be the same for each
Storage System LPAR. For example, if you have a 15 TB total
authorization level for the point in time copy licensed function, you can
assign a license value of 9.1 TB to Storage System LPAR 1 and a license
value of 5.9 TB to Storage System LPAR 2.
You can also change the license value on a Storage System LPAR basis.
If the change is a reduction in the license value, you may need to reboot
the affected Storage System LPAR.
Deactivation: Assigning a license value of zero (0.0 TB)
provides the ability to deactivate (disable) a licensed function. A new
feature activation code will be generated and when you install it into
the machine, the function will be deactivated during the next IML of the
machine.
You can also reactivate a deactivated licensed function by changing
the license value to a non-zero value. A new feature activation code
will be generated and when you install it into the machine, the function
will be activated. Reactivation is a nondisruptive activity.
When you deactivate a licensed function using the DSFA application,
the installed function authorization feature numbers remain on the
machine record. This means that you do not need to reacquire your
function authorization feature numbers if you want to reactivate the
licensed function at a future date.
Activation
Licensed functions are activated by the installation of feature
activation codes into the 2107 system. The feature activation codes are
made available by IBM and are obtained using the DSFA application.
Enforcement
The 2107 Licensed Machine Code contains logic and other technology to
maintain compliance with established authorization levels. For each
storage type, you will be allowed to logically configure physical
capacity (that is, disk drives) only up to the extent of your
authorization level for that storage type. If you have multiple licensed
functions with the same license scope, the extent of IBM authorization is
defined by the licensed function with the lowest license value.
On the Model 9A2, this enforcement is done on a Storage System LPAR
level.
For a 2107 machine with Standby CoD disk drives (#2xx7 features),
activation (logical configuration) of CoD disk drives may exceed the
extent of IBM authorization for a licensed function, in which case an
increased authorization level must be acquired.

Guidelines for Determining the Required Extent of IBM
Authorization
The required authorization level depends upon the license scope:
- If the license scope is FB, the authorization level must be equal to
or greater than the total amount of physical capacity within the system
that will be logically configured as FB.
- If the license scope is CKD, the authorization level must be equal to
or greater than the total amount of physical capacity within the system
that will be logically configured as CKD.
- If the license scope is ALL, the authorization level must be equal to
or greater than the total system physical capacity.
For the Model 9A2, the required authorization level depends not only
upon the license scope, but also the physical capacity of the Storage
System LPARs that you want to activate the function on. For example, if
you want to:
- Activate a licensed function on only Storage System LPAR 1 with a
license scope of FB:
- The authorization level must be equal to or greater than the total
amount of physical capacity within Storage System LPAR 1 that will be
logically configured as FB.
- Activate a licensed function on Storage System LPAR 1 and LPAR 2,
both with a license scope of CKD:
- The authorization level must be equal to or greater than the total
amount of physical capacity within both Storage System LPAR 1 and LPAR 2
that will be logically configured as CKD.
- Activate a licensed function on Storage System LPAR 1 with a license
scope of FB and on LPAR 2 with a license scope of ALL:
- The authorization level must be equal to or greater than the total
amount of physical capacity within Storage System LPAR 1 that will be
logically configured as FB and the total physical capacity within LPAR 2.
You can exclude Standby CoD disk drives (#2xx7 features) from your
authorization level calculation. However, you must increase your
authorization levels as Standby CoD disk drives are activated (configured
for use).
Refer to the IBM TotalStorage DS8000 Introduction and Planning Guide
(GC35-0495) for physical capacity calculation guidelines.
Ordering Instructions
Configurator use: Use of the configurator is mandatory for
all DS8000 Series Function Authorization orders (plant and field
install).
The DS8000 Series Function Authorizations must be configured and
ordered with the DS8000 series machine as a "2107 system". For ordering
purposes, a 2107 system consists of:
- DS8000 series base unit (2107 Model 921, 922, or 9A2).
- One or more DS8000 Expansion Units (2107 Model 92E or 9AE) that will
be physically attached to the base unit.
- DS8000 Series Function Authorizations (2244 Models OEL, PAV, PTC,
RMC, and RMZ)
Failure to configure and order these components as a system can result
in the creation and shipment of incorrect and/or incomplete
configurations since multi-model configuration rules and cross-model
feature number corequisites cannot be validated.
Field upgrades must also be configured and ordered against the 2107
system.
DS8000 series licensed functions: Licensed functions
require the selection of a DS8000 series feature number (IBM 2107) and
the acquisition of DS8000 Series Function Authorization (IBM 2244)
feature numbers:
- The 2107 licensed function indicator feature number enables the
technical activation of the function subject to the client applying a
feature activation code made available by IBM.
- The 2244 function authorization feature numbers establish the extent
of IBM authorization for that function on the 2107 machine for which it
was acquired.

The following process must be used for all licensed functions orders
(initial orders or upgrades):
- The 2244 function authorizations must:
- Be linked to the 2107 base unit model (a CPU/SIU) during order entry
- Be assigned a System Type of 2107
- Have the unique System Number of the 2107 base unit model for which
they are being ordered
- The 2107 base unit model and all linked 2244 models on the order must
have the same:
- System Number
- Scheduling Link Number
- Customer-Requested Arrival Date (CRAD)

2244 PAV I/O 2 2107
Failure to follow this process will result in an ordering error, and
incorrectly placed orders will not be processed by the plant. Incorrect
orders include:
- Failure to link the 2244 function authorization to the 2107 machine
order
- Ordering of a 2244 function authorization feature number without an
order for the corequisite 2107 licensed function indicator feature number
07xx
- Specification of the 2107 licensed function indicator feature number
07xx without an order for the corequisite 2244 function authorization
feature number
- Use of System Type 9998
License upgrades: The extent of IBM authorization for an
enabled licensed function is increased by acquiring additional 2244
function authorization feature numbers. The feature numbers can be
ordered in any sequence or combination.
License deactivation: A licensed function is deactivated
(removed) by ordering 2244 function authorization feature number 7x00.
When feature number 7x00 is ordered, all other 7xxx feature numbers on
the 2244 function authorization model must be removed. Additionally, the
corresponding 2107 licensed function indicator feature number 07xx must
also be removed. No refund or credit is provided to the client when the
7xxx feature numbers are removed.
Alternatively, a client can deactivate a licensed function using the
Disk Storage Feature Activation (DSFA) application at:
When the client deactivates a licensed function using DSFA, the
installed 2107 licensed function indicator feature number and 2244
function authorization feature numbers remain on the machine record.
Using DSFA, the client can also reactivate the licensed function at a
future date without the need to reacquire the 2244 function authorization
feature numbers.
Regardless of which method is used, deactivation of a licensed
function is a disruptive activity and requires a machine IML (Models 921
and 922) or reboot of the affected Storage System LPAR (Model 9A2).
Licensed Function Management and Activation
Licensed function management and activation is a client
responsibility.
- Management refers to use of the Disk Storage Feature Activation
(DSFA) application to select the license scope and assign the license
value.
- Activation refers to the retrieval and installation of the feature
activation code into the 2107 system. The feature activation code is
made available by IBM and obtained using the DSFA application.
These activities are the client's responsibility at the initial
activation of a licensed function and when the extent of IBM
authorization is increased.
DSFA Application: To access DSFA, the client will be
required to enter information about the 2107 machine. This information
can be found on the Storage Unit General Properties page in the IBM
TotalStorage DS8000 Storage Manager application.
Clients can access the DSFA application at:
IBM employees can also access the DSFA application using this URL.
However, when doing so, 2107 machine information is required, including
the machine signature. The machine signature is a unique identifier for
each machine and can only be found on Storage Unit General Properties
page in the IBM TotalStorage DS8000 Storage Manager application.
Alternatively, IBM employees can access the DSFA application from the
CRM WorkSmart home page. When DSFA is accessed in this method, the entry
of the machine signature is optional. When a machine signature is not
entered, access to DSFA is limited to read-only authority.
Not available.
Not available.
- The amount of physical capacity within a 2107 system that can be
logically configured for use will be enforced by the 2107 Licensed
Machine Code to maintain compliance with the extent of IBM authorization
established for licensed functions activated on the machine. The 2107
Licensed Machine Code will not allow the logical configuration of
physical capacity beyond the extent of IBM authorization (except when
activating Standby CoD capacity).
- The deactivation of an activated licensed function, or a lateral
change or reduction in the license scope, is a disruptive activity and
requires a machine IML (Model 921 and Model 922) or reboot of the
affected Storage System LPAR (Model 9A2).
- A lateral change is defined as changing the license scope from FB to
CKD or from CKD to FB.
- A reduction is defined as changing the license scope from ALL to FB
or from ALL to CKD.
Each DS8000 Series Function Authorization (IBM 2244) establishes the
extent of IBM authorization for one or more licensed functions acquired
for a IBM TotalStorage DS8000 series (IBM 2107). Each 2244 function
authorization is applicable only for the specific 2107 (by serial number)
for which it was acquired and is not transferable to another serial
numbered 2107.
Each 2244 function authorization requires a corequisite licensed
function indicator feature number on the 2107 for which is was acquired:

Operating environment: An operating environment license is
required on every 2107 base unit (Models 921, 922, and 9A2). The extent
of IBM authorization acquired through the 2244 Model OEL feature numbers
must cover the physical capacity of the 2107 system, where system is
defined as the base unit and all physically attached expansion units
(excluding Standby CoD capacity).
If the operating environment license has not been acquired and
activated on the machine, disk drives installed within the 2107 system
cannot be logically configured for use. Upon activation of the operating
environment, disk drives can be logically configured up to the extent of
IBM authorization.
As additional disk drives are installed, the extent of IBM
authorization must be increased by acquiring additional 2244 Model OEL
feature numbers. Otherwise, the additional disk drives cannot be
logically configured for use.
For a 2107 system with Standby CoD disk drives (#2xx7 features),
activation (logical configuration) of CoD disk drives may exceed the
extent of IBM authorization for the operating environment, in which case
an increased authorization level must be acquired.

These features establish the extent of IBM authorization for the use
of the following point in time copy licensed function on a specific 2107
machine:
- IBM TotalStorage FlashCopy
This licensed function is authorized on the basis of physical
capacity and has a license scope of FB, CKD, or ALL.
- If the license scope is FB, the total authorization level must be
equal to or greater than the total amount of physical capacity within the
system that will be logically configured as FB.
- If the license scope is CKD, the total authorization level must be
equal to or greater than the total amount of physical capacity within the
system that will be logically configured as CKD.
- If the license scope is ALL, the total authorization level must be
equal to or greater than the total system physical capacity.
For the 2107 Model 9A2:
