Cisco MDS 9120 and MDS 9140 Multilayer Fabric Switches
The MDS 9120 (IBM 2061-020) is a 20-port Fibre Channel switch packaged
in a 1 RU enclosure, supporting front-to-back airflow, is designed with 4
full-rate ports, 16 oversubscribed ports, and redundant hot-swappable
power supplies and fans. The MDS 9140 (IBM 2061-040) is the 40-port
version, providing 8 full-rate ports and 32 oversubscribed ports. Beside
the port count, no functional differences are present between the two
products, therefore this section refers to both, unless explicitly
stated.
MDS 9120/9140 (2061-020/040) switches are designed to provide the same
services and capabilities as the MDS 9500 series with the exception of
supervisor (hardware controller) high-availability and support for
non-Fibre channel data transports. Features include:
- Hardware-enabled Virtual SANs (VSANs) help support multiple
workgroups on a single physical infrastructure.
- Fabric-wide monitoring with intelligent diagnostics and
troubleshooting tools, such as SPAN, Port Analyzer Adapter, FC-Trace and
FC-Ping.
- Port Channels promote high performance and resilience of ISLs.
- Fabric switch availability, with redundant hot-swappable power
supplies and fans, software process restartability.
- Comprehensive security framework includes VSANs, hardware-based
zoning, role based access control, SSH, SNMPv3, Radius support/
- Easy-to-use, intuitive device and fabric management tools.
Cisco MDS 9000 Enterprise Packages
The Cisco MDS 9000 Enterprise Packages, designed to provide enhanced
security and management features, bundled for convenience and added
flexibility. The Cisco MDS 9000 Enterprise Package includes the
following capabilities:
- LUN Zoning
- Read-only zones
- Port lockdown
Cisco MDS 9000 Fabric Manager Packages
The Cisco MDS 9000 Fabric Manager Server Packages extend
Cisco Fabric Manager by helping provide historical performance data
collection for network traffic hot-spot analysis, centralized management
services and support for advanced application integration.
Cisco CWDM Solution SFP Transceivers
The CWDM wavelength-specific SFPs (#5311-#5318) each operate
at one of eight wavelengths and may be configured into any available port
on the MDS 9120 or 9140. When customers require addition of CWDM mux
capability, the Cisco Eight Channel CWDM Mux (2062-CW1) may be ordered
separately, to transmit multiple wavelengths over a shared extended
distance fiber optic cable.
Fiber Optic Transceivers
Fibre Channel ports on the IBM 2061-020/040 may be
configured to accept Short Wave SFP and/or Long Wave SFP optic
transceivers. However, when ordering the IBM 2061-020/-040, a minimum of
16 Fiber Channel ports must be populated with SFP optic transceivers.
Fiber Channel optic cables and cable couplers
A fiber optic cable is required for attaching the Cisco MDS
9000 family switch or director to host computer system adapters, or other
Fibre Channel storage area components. The fiber optic cable can be
customer supplied, and must meet specifications defined by Cisco Systems.
Where a limited distance connection exists, fiber optic cables can be
ordered with Cisco products from IBM with the following features:
Cisco Enhanced Warranty Upgrade and Post-Warranty Support for
MDS 9120/9140 (2061-020/-040)
Cisco enhanced warranty upgrade and post-warranty support
features are available for the Cisco MDS 9000 products purchased through
IBM or IBM Business Partners, under the IBM 2061 machine type.
The warranty for the Cisco MDS 9000 products purchased through IBM or
IBM Business Partners, under the IBM 2061 machine type, is one year, 8x5,
Next-Business-Day (NBD) Customer-Replaceable Unit (CRU) Cisco Warranty.
Optionally at initial plant order, the customer may purchase an enhanced
warranty upgrade which provides one year 24x7 Same Day On-Site Cisco
Warranty.
The Cisco post-warranty support features are available for both plant
and field install, and provide the ability to establish either:
- Up to four years, 8x5 NBD CRU Cisco support beyond the first-year
warranty period, or
- Up to four years 24x7 Same Day On-Site Cisco support beyond the
first-year warranty period.
Cisco Post-Warranty Support Features for MDS 9000
Software Packages
Cisco post-warranty support features, resold by IBM, available for
each of the IBM 2061 Fabric Switches, are also available for optional
features such as the MDS Enterprise, and MDS Fabric Manager Server
Packages. In order for Cisco post-warranty support to be in
effect on MDS 9000 software features, the base Switch or Director model
must first be under Cisco warranty or Cisco post-warranty support. The
Cisco post-warranty support features are available at initial plant order
and field install, and provide the ability to establish an additional
year of Cisco support, beyond the first-year warranty period.
See Special Features section for details.
Cisco enhanced warranty and post-warranty support features are subject
to Cisco's standard Warranty and Post-Warranty Support Contract terms and
conditions included in the packaging with the eligible products. Some
limitations apply.
When ordering Cisco post-warranty features for field installation
(MES), the customer must sign the Cisco Master Service Agreement (MSA).
The MSA is required prior to IBM being able to order Cisco post-warranty
support as MES.
